Taormina is one of Sicily’s most famous destination spots.  At least on the east side of the island.  Taormina has spectacular views of Mt. Etna and the ocean.  The high part of town has a lot of high-end shops.  They are located on a main road and there is much to see and buy.

The lower part of Taormina is a beach you can dip in when it’s nice and hot (Isola Bella).  The area is touristy, but not a town you want to miss visiting when you’re in Sicily.

There is a Greek Amphitheater situated with awesome dramatic views.  There is a fee to go inside the amphitheater, but it is worth it.  It is picturesque and, along with the entire town, it is the epitome of what you have in mind when you think of Italy.
